Discussion:
GPO- Desktop background appears 90% black to users

Hello,

I'm currently using the GPO to set all users desktops to the same background
image (this image is a standard windows background).

When the users log in, the background starts to appear at the top of the
screen, and then appears completely black for the remaining 90% of the
screen. Does anyone know why this keeps occurring?

Other items of note: I've also tried using different backgrounds and
logging off and back on with similar results. If the user hits F5 to refresh
the desktop, the background does appear as it should. While this does fix
the problem, I don't want to ask 800 users to refresh their background
everyday.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Interesting...

How are you configuring the backdrop?

Are you enabling Active Desktop?

Here's some simple instructions on how to do what you want:

If this is what you've done, have you checked for any anomalies in the event
logs of a workstation?

Thank you for your response.

Both GPO's are set as you suggested. Active Desktop is enabled, and I've
set the background to be C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\azul.jpg (a default XP
background).

I looked through the event logs and could find no errors. The only other
thing I can think to try is to use a network location for the .jpg instead of
pulling the image from each local machine. My though process was that this
would save some bandwidth on the network.

Any other ideas?
