Hello Folks!

Is there anyone out-there who has experince of using "Acronis True
Image Universal Restore"
to move a Active Directory Domain Controller to new hardware?

If so, please let me know, since I want to perform this withouth doing
the traditional Microsoft way,
if "Acronis True Image Universal Restore" can manage this.

I have crawled the web for articles about this topic without no luck.

In Advance Thanks for the knowledge sharing.

Hi Anders
Why don't you just add the new DC hardware as an additional DC and then
demote the old one.

I hope that the information above helps you.

Hello Jorge,

Yes I could do that as you say, but I want to remain the same
computername as the old one due to our documentation requires this.
I know that this can be achived with various tools etc, but if can
take a image of the old machine,
and restore to new hardware, then there will be less work of checking
of possible errors, such
as DNS, SYSVOL, Replmon etc etc.. Also one of the DC contains CA
server as well..

Thanks for your question!

Don't do that on DCs, that could lead you to problems like USN rollback,
most important of all is that you SHOULDN'T use that as a backup method
because isn't supported.

Other option is to do a backup and restore it in a different hardware box
(Test it First).
