When I try to delete a computer account from the computer container I receive
this message...

"Object COMPUTERNAME is a container and contains other objects. Are you sure
you want to delete object COMPUTERNAME and the objects it contains? The
operation could take a long time if COMPUTERNAME contains a large number of
objects."

This computer was a laptop running Windows XP and has not connected to the
network/domain for over a year.

I can and have delete many other computer accounts without issue.

Why would I get this message?

Is it safe to click yes and have it delete it?

Is this an indication of a bigger problem?

Windows 2003 DC's
Domain functional level: Windows 2000 mixed
Forest functional level: Windows 2000

Thanks

Hi,

Within ADUC (Active Directory Users and Computers) what other objects
are below this computer object?
When you open up ADUC click on view and make sure we have the two
following checked off
Users, Groups, Computers as containers AND Advanced Features.

You should then see what else is under this account and then decide
for yourself if it is still needed.
Post by Dan
From your statement that it has not been online for over a year, my
thinking is that it is ok to delete.

Good luck

After checking Users, Groups, Computers as containers AND Advanced Features I
see something called "msmq" under it with an icon that looks like an enveople
with 2 blue arrows, one point right and one pointing left. I go to properties
of that and see nothing.

any ideas?

Hi,

Well this tells you that msmq Microsoft Message Queuing is installed
on this machine.
IF MSMQ on this machine was really needed in your enviroment and this
machine has not been online for over a year, you would have seen
issues a long time ago.
No problem deleting it but that comes down to you finding out WHY MSMQ
was installed on this machine in the first place

Good Luck
