Hi,

Sounds to me like your are not a member of the schema admin group. Only
schema administrators can manage the schema master.

Kim Frank
I have been able to successfully move the initial 4of the 5 FMSO roles as
described in KB article 255690. However, when I follow the Transfering
Schema Master step, the Change box is greyed out on both the Target DC and
the Destination DC. I've tried rebooting both DCs however the box remains
greyed out. Any ideas folks? I'm in a bind here and could really use any
help you can provide. I'd rather not have to use the Seize command in
NTDSUTIL.exe if I don't have to.

Have you logged off and then back on again since these changes?? If not,
you'll still be using the old access token...

Kim,

I was, in fact, not a Schema Admin Group member, however I have rectified
that situation, replicated the NTDS settings, and waited an hour with the
same results. Any other ideas?

You have to do the transfer from the computer where you are transfering the
role to.

Kim
Paul,
Big duh on my part, obviously I'm not running on all cylinders today.
Logging back in gave me the option to change the role, however when I went
to change it, it said "The requested FSMO operation failed. The current FSMO
holder could not be contacted."
I am on the current FSMO holder when I am performing this function. DNS
seems to be working ok, I'm able to ping the box locally and from elsewhere
on the network. Please help a guy who's clearly at the end of his wicket?

Make sure you have logged off and back on in order to update your access
token.

Also make sure you are connected to the domain controller where you want to
transfer the role to.

Take a look at
