Hi

I am trying to add a user account called claims, when i go to create it, it
complains there is already an account that has this alias but i cant find
it, i tried search AD with the email ***@domain.com but it did not come
up with anything,so i then tested our support distribution group who's
primary email is ***@domain.com but also has a secondary email of
***@domain.com if i searched for tech by right clicking on our domain
name in AD Users & computers it finds it, if i try an search for a secondary
alias it does not find it. I have tried the advanced tab but if you select
groups you dont have te option of searching for an email address.

How else can i search AD

Thanks

Nick

Hello
If this is an exchange scenario you should search against proxyAddresses
attribute other wise mail attribute.

You can use dsquery command line tool, included in Windows Server 2003, as
well in the Windows Server Support Tools.

dsquery * -attr sAMAccountName mail proxyAddresses -scope subtree -filter "
(|(mail=***@address.com))"

Note if the sAMAccount name is missing in the output the object may are a
contact object or another object. If so you can add the objectClass
attribute as well the distinguishedName attribute to see where in he
directory the object exist.
